Ann Maria from Kannur, Kerala needs our financial support to start her Nursing degree. Her father is a rubber tapping worker earning less than Rs.4000 a month, mother is a house wife, elder sister is working as a nurse in Delhi and elder brother is doing his degree course.

The family already has a loan of Rs. 4 lakh taken for her sister’s education, which she’s paying off from her salary. Her dad’s salary is not enough to sustain their household expenses along with Ann’s education. Total fee for 1st year BSc Nursing comes to Rs. 92,000 including tuition, hostel and food.

45-year-old Thomas is a hard worker, earning and supporting his family, working as a coconut picker. On the 26th of October, 2020 he fell from a coconut tree and was badly injured. Thomas was rushed to the hospital and they found that his thigh bone had two fractures.

One surgery was completed urgently, and he is recovering. After observing him, they will decide whether he would need another surgery.

Thomas stays with his wife and 2 children, Neethu and Nihil who are still in school. He was the sole breadwinner for their family, and they have no other source of income. Recently, they also lost the money they had paid as advance for a house since the deed was not proper. The family is now struggling to meet hospital expenses.

The cost of surgery and treatment comes to Rs. 1,50,000. The family has arranged for Rs. 40,000 from friends and well-wishers, but that is not nearly enough to complete Thomas’ treatment. They approached MicroCharity for financial support.

Brain Surgery complication – Albin

Oct 15, 2020 - Kunnoth, Kannur, Kerala (MCID-110-20-21)

30-year-old Albin is going through a very tough time in his life and needs our financial support with prayers to help him return to normal life. He was diagnosed with colloid cyst in the brain, in August 2020 and underwent craniotomy for excision of cyst on the 12th of September. He was discharged on 19th September but was readmitted on the 20th with seizures.

CT scan revealed multiple hematomas in the brain and meningitis. He was shifted to Aster Mims hospital, Kozhikode, where he was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. He underwent one more surgery for coiling of aneurysm and insertion of Ommaya reservoir.

He is currently in the Neurosurgical ICU with oxygen support through a tracheostomy tube. The family has already spent close to 12 lakhs for two surgeries and post-operative treatment. Albin will need a prolonged stay in the hospital before he is stabilized.

Albin currently stays with this aged father, who is working as a salesman; his mother who is not employed, his brother who is a student. He got married a couple of months back, and his newlywed wife is also staying with him. The family has no means to support Albin’s continued treatment. They approached MicroCharity for financial assistance.

Medical Support for Nimal – September 2020

Nimal is paralysed from waist down. The tragedy hit her about 10 years ago when she was studying in 12th grade. She had a fever and during the treatment the doctor administered a wrong injection which made her paralyzed from waist down. A hip replacement surgery was done to make her walk, but that made her condition worse. They have very little land which is mortgaged for her treatment. The family is unable to repay the loans as they have to spend on the treatment. She had a tumour in uterus and she had to go through a hysterectomy. Now she is also suffering from kidney stone problems.

Nimal has not been keeping well these days. She is now admitted at a hospital due to continuous nausea and vomiting. This is due to the hormone level issues she has been fighting with. Cancer treatment for Rajan

62-year old Rajan and his family is in dire need of our assistance. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer 2.5 years ago. He was treated at Amrita medical college where he had to spend a lot of money. He then went to Cochin Cancer research centre at Kalamassery for chemotherapy and other treatments. The current treatment involves one injection per month for a year, each costing Rs. 25,000 at a total of Rs. 3 lakhs.

Rajan was working as a manager in a hotel in Delhi. He came back to Kerala three years back and was staying in a rented house at Aluva. During the flood of 2018, he lost all his possessions. The family then shifted to a rented apartment at Kakkanad. Rajan’s wife is ill and cannot go for work. His daughter completed 12th grade and is working in a call centre now. The only income for this family is his daughter’s salary, which is barely enough to cover their rent and daily expenses. The family is struggling to manage the injection costs and they reached out to MicroCharity for financial assistance.

58-year old Rosamma Antony has been struggling with her dialysis expenses for the past 10 months. She and her husband were running a tea shop before she was diagnosed with kidney failure. She needs three dialysis per week at a cost of around Rs. 9000 per week. They had to close the tea shop since Rosamma must go to the hospital very frequently. She is also currently suffering from respiratory issues. The couple has 2 daughters who are already married but are in no position to support them.

54-year-old Joy Antappan from Idukki, Kerala has been suffering from mental health issues for the past one year, following his father’s death. 3 months back, he had to undergo a major surgery to remove a growth from his stomach. Joy also has some heart-related complications. After the surgery, his mental health deteriorated, and he had to be admitted to a mental hospital near his house. The family is not able to keep him at home due to suicidal tendencies and violence.

Joy was working as a daily wage laborer before he fell ill. His wife was also working as a daily wage laborer; but she had to discontinue work after a leg injury. Their daughter is married, and son is working at a mechanic shop close by.
The family has 10 cents of land and some support for house construction from the Panchayat. But Joy’s medical expense of around Rs. 30,000 per month is too much for the family to bear. They are not able to finish the construction or meet their daily expenses. The family is running from pillar to post to find money for his treatment, and they approached MicroCharity for financial support.
